But part of you is asking:

"Am I home here?"

And I suspect that is the question beneath all the others.

Two cast bronze crow’s feet in a posture of prayer. What is usually sharp and grasping becomes outstretched and vulnerable in a moment of stillness.

Pareidolia (Home), 2022 - ongoing, ink and eggshell on cotton paper, 20 x 32cm

‍ ‍About the work:

The archive consists of a catalogue of eggshells, tracing the places I have walked throughout the year. 12 unique ‘drawings’ are made from the growing physical archive every 12 months, each year forming its own series.

Pareidolia(Home) is an ongoing artwork in which I reconstruct found eggshells on paper. For years, I have been collecting eggshells on walks. These are fragments of something once whole, now scattered, a first home for a little bird that is broken on exit into the world. It’s what we do with memories of home: we try to piece them together, but returning to the past is impossible. Every experience we carry makes it harder to fully step back into something more childlike.

This work isn’t about making the egg look like an egg again. Instead, it’s about creating something new through finding a sense of order and cohesion within the broken pieces. I think of them as a reflection on our human need to find meaning in fragments. It’s the same impulse that makes us see shapes in clouds and patterns in randomness; a quiet and ancient attempt to make sense of things.
