2022- ongoing, a body of currently over 600 photographsWhere Our Breath Has Been
Where Our Breath Has Been is an ongoing photographic archive of discarded balloons found through everyday encounters.
The archive currently holds over 600 images over the past three years. Each balloon photographed as found: collapsed, weathered, tangled, slowly fading back into the landscape. The silt at the end of a party, the residue floating back to the ground after a funeral, deflating and splitting. Once temporary vessels for human breath, celebration, grief, togetherness, accompanying some of life's cornerstone rituals, the balloons hold a strange tension between eroticism and loss. Swollen forms shaped by the body’s exhale, lingering after the breath has gone.
As the archive continues to grow, it becomes both a mapping of where breath has lingered and a quiet record of disappearance and slow fading.
