2019, paint on wall, 250cm x 160cmRe|Constitution
Re|Constitution is a semi-reconstruction of a wall in my studio, which I have pulled apart in flakes of paint. Hidden underneath the typical white emulsion can be seen layers and colours of the space’s past lives, the strata of time, life and events. These illusive subtle colour variations and discolourations start to suggest an order, and, at least it seems to me, perhaps the same order that most people seek for their own stability. The domestic connotations of the household paint, with their various colours and the attempts I made at establishing order, suggest an anxiety to keep a ‘home’ in one piece. Once something is disturbed or destroyed, it can never quite be the same again. The result is an attempt at ordering chaos from a network of imagined connections between jarring fragments.
